Plant based diet is a term used to denote the consumption of food containing a major portion of plant products. However, there is no exact definition for plant based diet. Some people consider a plant diet as one that includes only products obtained from plants. On the other hand, some people consider egg and milk as a part of a plant diet. In reality, there are so many different categories of plant based diets. Some of the common plant based diets are as follows.

Vegan Diet

It is a type of plant based diet that excludes all types of animal products like milk, egg, and meat. A vegan diet is mostly complemented with a different type of lifestyle. This is because a vegan diet not only restricts the usage of animal based food but also the use of wearable products made from animals, like leather and wool. In addition to that, a vegan diet also prefers the usage of plant products like fruits and vegetables in the raw form.

Vegetarian Diet

You might have found that the term vegetarian diet is similar to that of a vegan diet. Not only the names, the diet pattern of a vegan and vegetarian diet are also similar. The vegetarian diet is another type of plant diet that restricts the usage of animal products like eggs, milk, and meat. However, the main difference between a vegan and a vegetarian is in the lifestyle. In vegetarians, the restrictions are only for the consumption of animal products and not for the usage of animal-based products. That is vegetarians are not restricted to use woolen garments and leather accessories.

Pescatarian Diet

It is a type of plant based diet that does not include any type of animal products. However, this type of diet includes all types of seafood like fish and other sea creatures like sea cucumber. It is considered a plant diet because a major portion of this diet will be plant products. There are also many people who consume milk and eggs while following a pescatarian diet. Most people follow this diet to obtain essential fatty acids present in the sea creatures. Even if it is present in some plant products, the concentration is much lower than that found in seafood.

The above mentioned are some of the commonly identified plant based diets.
